Preface

This website contains all general and particular information about relics of the Buddha and his disciples, and is one of the most comprehensive websites concerning Buddha’s relics.

We found there are a lot of studies and textbooks referring to the relics of the Buddha and his disciples and they each have their various details. So we have tried to collect all of the important information, collating it and arranging it systematically in order to facilitate study.

Only some infornation was extracted from the various source that was used for this website as there are too much information available and if there is anybody who is interested to know more about the relics after looking at this website can find more information from the various references that we have in the bibliography section.

The relics of the Buddha and his disciples are said to confirm the results of dhamma practice. However It is widely known that the formation of relics is due to the result of dhamma practice However we are not in a position to judge or asume the level of attainment by such individuals ands there are a lot of different opinions about this among monks and laity. Therefore, not wanting to go along with any point of view in particular, we would prefer to use the term “Savaka-dhatu” or “Relics of the buddha disciples” instead of “Arahant-dhatu” except for the monks who practiced during our lord buddha's lifetime. This is because their attainment and realisation of the dhamma were praised and confimed by the buddha himself. in some sections the term “Dhatu“ is used instead of “Relics“ as there are differences in physical charactaristicswhich are obviously seen.

All of the information in this website comes from the various sources such as the Tipitaka, the commentary, the textbooks or trustworthy people. There might be something different from other books or we may have added more information which is not shown in any books or cut out some stories which have no references, such as the story of the elder lady who took the buddha relics to bath. I have never believed that these were not Buddha’s relics, and similarly for relics which not in any reference book. However, anybody who doesn’t believe in these might be biased.

I believe that this website can help you know and understand more on the relics of the Buddha and his disciples. However, nothing is perfect, so as concerns any mistakes, I would take responsibility and apologize, and would be grateful for any comments via the email address
